Brescia, May 18, 2017: Gentlemen, it’s Mille Miglia Day!
The 35th edition of “the most beautiful race in the world” has only just started, but for us the excitement of the “Freccia Rossa” started long before today. This year, The Outlierman style will accompany the teams of driving enthusiats inside 11 classic cars down the 1700 km track.
Being true to our gentleman roots, we are immensely honored to accompany the female team for the second year in a row consisting of Silvia Marini and Saskia Stoeckelmann, winners of the Coppa delle Dame 2016.
This year, the two Lady Drivers will drive a 1920 Bugatti Type 23 wearing The Authentic Race and The Heritage gloves that we had specially made for them in a regular and fingerless version, also taking care of their luggage with The Outlierman Duffle Bag that perfectly matches the elegant blue color of their car!
Among the 450 historic cars admitted to this regularity race, a significant spotlight is given to the 10 cars from the JD Classics team that is also this year’s Gold Sponsor of the event and host of the “JD Classics Welcome Lounge” in Brescia, a place where drivers and co-drivers can meet one another, mingle and treat themselves to refined refreshments.
It is there where we met Matthew Berry and Stuart Batchelor, Senior Restoration Technician and Sales Manager for JD Classics. It was great to chat with them and find out how much passion and extreme care goes into each car preparation for an event like the Mille Miglia.
The set up for a classic car in a long and challenging race like the Mille Miglia – which lasts four days, can go from asphalt to dirt roads and come across very different climatic conditions – takes time, attention and 3 to 4 dedicated mechanics.
In order to secure that these vintage beauties make it to the finish line in all of their glory and give each team a unique experience you must study, modify and test your cars well in advance, making any necessary improvements to meet the customers' desires, the performance required by a specific race as this one and, of course, the rules of each event.
In this case, in order to prepare the cars participating in the Mille Miglia, all of which were manufactured in the 50’s, JD Classics specifically focused on the engine cooling system, drum brakes that are resistant to overheating and upgraded headlights: the original power given from the generator is not enough, it has to be integrated with carefully chosen alternators!
In the weeks preceeding the start of the Mille Miglia, each team does everything to the best of their ability to ensure the cars finish the race in the same beauty and efficency as they started with. For this reason, each team is supported by 2 mechanics throughout the duration of the event.
This year, JD Classics’ cars participating in the Mille Miglia feature teams from all over the world, all brought together by the same passion for uncontrained and authentic excitement. Since style only increases the thrill of driving, every one of them has chosen to wear The Outlierman driving gloves and match them with the colors of their cars, to experience the Mille Miglia in all its classic and elegant charm, filled with pure racing passion.
For the 2017 “Freccia Rossa”, JD Classics’ garage features some wonders of design and mechanical engineering genius such as a 1953 Porsche 356 Coupé, a 1954 Lincoln Capri, a 1956 Austin Healey 100 M and a 1954 AC Ace. Five are Jaguar models taking part in the regularity race: two 1950 Jaguar XK120 OTS Roadsters, a 1951 Jaguar XK120 OTS, a 1951 Jaguar Mark VII and two 1955 Jaguar XK140 SEs in a Roadster and Drophead Coupé versions.
The race has only just started and the roar of the engines is already inebriating. Follow us on Instagram and on our online Magazine to experience the unique magic of the Mille Miglia!
