When Ian Fleming finished writing Casino Royale, the first of 12 stories from the James Bond series, no one could have imagined that the secret agent 007 would have become one of the most iconic, elegant and charismatic characters in pop culture. Bond’s adventures began in 1953 and the rest was history. Between the international missions, controversial Bond girls and dream-like worthy cars, such as the Aston Martin DB5, the series never failed to entertain and inspire any and all Gentleman with a passion for both style and motoring.
In fact, during our visit to the last Paris Salon Rétromobile we encountered the legendary James Bond’s DB5, equipped identically as in the unforgettable 1964 Goldfinger and in other films of the series. To be honest, our hearts might have skipped a beat. What a thrill… what a show!
Driven on the big screen by perfect British Gentlemen Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, the Aston Martin DB5 has become the most iconic among the Bond supercars. Equipped with deadly weapons and devices designed by the inventors and scientists of the well-known Q Section, it was a loyal ally to Bond during so many adventures, often pulling him out of trouble and giving him the advantage of speed over pursuers and enemies.
It was unbelievable walking around this four-wheeled wonder and seeing those fantastic “special features” first-hand: wing machine guns placed behind the front and rear indicator lights, hidden control panel in the driver’s arm rest with all the levers and activation buttons for the smoke screen, oil slick sprayer, three-point nail spreader, rear bullet proof screen, ejector seat, radar tracker to detect sensitive targets and, of course, the unforgettable revolving license plates: BMT 216A, 4711-EA-62 and LU 6789.
A dream car that could certainly not be left out of the selection of classic icons celebrated by The Outlierman style. In fact, the Aston Martin DB5 has recently become part of our The Portrait collection, which embodies historic cars into precious collectible canvas-like works of art.
Along with the Aston Martin DB5, The Portrait collection also features the Porsche 356, the Jaguar E-Type and the Lancia Aurelia, all available in silk scarves, bow ties and pocket squares, englightening every outfit and enriching it with a touch of class and originality.
The unmistakable personality of these cars have been captured into style accessories that never go unnoticed, details that would also happen to fit perfectly on the most fascinating Gentleman in cinema and literature, a true outlier, someone who sought authenticy in everything, right down to his signature line: “My name is Bond… James Bond".
