The Outlierman is the style partner of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance for the third consecutive year. This year our design celebrates the incredible story of the OSCA brand on the new tie, crafted entirely by hand in Italy using the finest quality silk and produced in limited edition for the collectors and judges of this prestigious event held at The Lodge.
This year the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has chosen to celebrate the historic brand OSCA - Officine Specializzate Costruzioni Automobili, an Italian car manufacturer founded by the Maserati Brothers in December 1947 just a stone’s throw from Bologna, the city where all our creations are also made.
An OSCA MT4, with all its champion’s class, is the star of this unique and exclusive design created in honour of a real icon of sporting passion. For the tie of the 68th edition of the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance we have chosen a print which brings out the most evident and characteristic style features of the car’s design, showing the unmistakable ellipse-shaped radiator grille in a frontal view and the sinuous, aerodynamic shape from a side view.
The light blue of the car on this collectable tie is that which has gone down in history with the triumphs of the model MT4, while the elegant stylization of the steering wheel creates movement on the elegant light blue background tone-on-tone.
OSCA is still, today, for all car lovers, an emblem of passion, creativity and determination. A family-born company, set up by five brothers Carlo, Bindo, Alfieri, Ettore and Ernesto Maserati, who were designers and drivers at the same time and never stopped believing in the dream of creating an extraordinary car. And so it was: the primogenitor OSCA MT4, a 1100 cc engine barchetta, saw its first victory on the same day as its competitive debut at the Naples Grand Prix in 1948.
From that day, the evolution of OSCA was a crescendo of technical innovation, refining of the design, triumphs and world records. In the years from 1947 to 1967, OSCA cars took part in all the most important competitions of that era: Mille Miglia, 24 Hours of Le Mans, Giro delle Calabrie, Targa Florio, Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti, the Richmond Trophy, Carrera Panamericana. Behind the wheel were legendary drivers: from Luigi Villoresi to Umberto Maglioli, Eugenio Castellotti, Luigi Musso, Giulio Cabianca and the mythical Stirling Moss, who in 1954 won the 12 Hours at Sebring in an OSCA MT4 165 CV 2.0 engine with desmodromic valve.
“The giant killer”, was the nickname given to the OSCA by certain observers of that time and still today this is the best definition for this ancestry of winning cars, born from a small car manufacturer, in a small Italian town, without any sponsors or sensational means but capable of great initiatives.
If you, too, are enthusiasts of motor-racing legends, if you like the idea of adding that special touch to your classic outfit with an accessory which recounts the history of the formidable OSCA, you can find the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2018 tie in the e-commerce section of our website.
