The season of car events is still alive and full of dates: after the experience in Pebble Beach, it's time to fly to London for Goodwood Revival, one of the most exclusive and most awaited events by those people who love to combine the passion for classic cars with the one for elegance, expressed in all its forms.
Goodwood Revival is a feat of style, class and timeless passion; a place back in time where British Gentlemen and ladies gather to follow the races of the most iconic sports cars from the 50’s and 60’s on a charming September weekend during which it’s possible to relive the atmosphere of Goodwood circuit between 1948 and 1966, when it was one of the most important and prestigious in the world.
A weekend of magical taste, which brings back to life the golden era in all its glory thanks to the presence of legendary drivers of the past and elegantly dressed men and women that evoke the style popular between the 40’s and the 60’s.
The unique atmosphere of the event already welcomes me during the trip from Victoria Station to Chichester. It’s really surprising and unusual to see people dressed with such elegance parading on the coaches of a train, almost all adorned with hats matched to three-piece or double-breasted suits in autumnal tones (or perhaps should I say "unmistakably British"?).
I watch the ladies parading in the corridors of the train looking for a seat, dressed with clothes that evoke a vintage style but still elegant: it seems like a scene from a 50’s movie, where ladies with elegant and sophisticated hats, pearl earrings and long high waist skirts light with grace the sobriety of the wooden coaches.
During my tour around the paddock and the surrounding area I repeatedly come across scenes of other times, during which the racing world was lived with a different attitude.
Gentlemen Drivers and neat-looking mechanics take care of the cars in the races, preparing them with great dedication because although the spirit is the one of a great party, the fire of the competition is always on: the chase of the glory that still today pushes the drivers to race even with sideswipes in order to win the top step of the podium.
The participating cars are real collector's items, although for the occasion they all have a racing look. Among my favorites there are definitely the Ferrari 250 GT, 250 LM e 250 GTO; some Aston Martin DB4 GT and DB2; some Jaguar D-Type and E-Type... However, my attention is caught by the classic single-seater cars, from Ferrari to Alfa Romeo, and from Maserati to Lotus.
Cars with a unique charm. It’s impossible not to appreciate them and not to desire to park one of them in your garage or in your living room as a true masterpiece of design, to take out for classic gatherings such as Goodwood Revival and the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique.
Days like this at Goodwood are real style and good life exhibitions, a praise of values and traditions of the past.
Groups of friends and enthusiasts sitting on the grass with picnic baskets that show an attention to details as well as a class never seen in any other event. They drink champagne, sometimes they dance the swing.
Goodwood is like a timeless painting in which men and women light-heartedly live their elegance, sharing a genuine passion for the classic taste and the motoring world.
However, I think that the real beauty of these events is their unique ability to keep alive traditions and values. In my opinion, elegance is something that should be present in everyone's life, not only focused on clothing but also expressed through the way you interact with others: is a gentle refinement of gestures and thoughts. It’s a philosophy of life.
